Nigeria U-23 Dream Team VI Receive N18M Allowance

Dream Team VI players have received the sum of N18m from the Sports Ministry for their allowance so far at Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The Dream Team VI and the sports Ministry led by the Minister Solomon Dalung have not been in good terms following a series of flight delays the players and officials experienced before their first game against Japan.

After their 1-0 win over Sweden, Dalung joined the players in the dressing room where he apologised and promised to pay their allowances.

The 29 members have now been paid for their first 11 days in the Olympics.

According to Special Adviser to Minister on Media, Nneka Ikem, the members of the team are entitled to N59, 250 ($150) daily camp allowance.

For the 11 days, each player has received N651,750 ($1650) which is about N18m in total.

”All your camp allowances have been budgeted for. There will be no story- telling during this games. You will get all your allowances and entitlements as we don’t want any distractions,” Dalung told the players after the 1-0 win over Sweden.

“We want you to remain focused. You have established that you’re great men and determined to conquer, despite all odds. There can’t be any other sacrifice more than this,” Dalung said.
