Lekan Shonde To Stand Trial For Wife's Death – Lagos DPP

The Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Lagos State, has approved that Lekan Shonde be tried for alleged murder of his late wife, Ronke.

The DPP, in its advice by the Chief State Counsel, Mr. T. Adewoye, stated that evidences available to him had showed that Lekan has a case to answer in the controversial death of his wife.

Lekan, who surrendered himself to the police, had said he only slapped the deceased during a disagreement the previous night and that she was well when he left home that day.

An autopsy report on Ronke’s corpse shod that she died from respiratory seizure.

On Friday, an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court, said the legal advice was ready but the court adjourned till July 8 after the counsel to the defendant, I.B. Mohammed, said he had yet to get the advice.

The Chief Magistrate, O.I. Adelaja, advised him to obtain the Certified True Copy before the adjourned date.
The DPP official report said there are indications of a fight between the couple. And since Lekan admitted that he slapped his late wife the previous day, it will be left to the court to determine "whether or not the circumstantial evidence available in this case is strong enough to secure a conviction.”
