Names of Senior Police Officers lobbying to replace IGP Arase

Some senior police officers have began lobbying for the office of the Inspector-General of Police. This is so as the incumbent IGP, Solomon Arase, will begin his terminal leave any moment from now and then proceed on retirement after serving for 35 years.

Arase has been in office for 13 months, having been appointed by the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in April, 2015.

Credible sources say senior officers like – DIGs Dan’Azumi Doma, Chintua Amajor-Onu, Kakwe Katso, and others, are already jostling for the top police job.

Some connected AIGs who are aiming for the job are:

Tambari Mohammed, Bala Hassan; Mohammed Abubakar, and Yahaya Ardo.

Others are Musa Daura, Adisa Bolanta, Ballah Nasarawa, Lawal Tanko, Usman Gwary, Mohammed Gana, Helen Adeyemi, and Johnson Ogunsakin.

However, there are indications that the federal government may have zoned the office to the North-Central or the South-East geo-political zones, so as to balance the equation as the two zones are not represented amongst the service chiefs.

While the the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Air Staff are from the North-East, the Director-General, Department of State Services is from the North-West, the South-West has the Chief of Defence Staff and the South-South has the Chief of Naval Staff.
Most likely, the new IGP will emerge from South-East or North-Central.
