Ali Appoints 6 Deputy Comptrollers & 8 Assistant Comptrollers of Customs (See Names)

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali has appointed six new Deputy Comptrollers-General of Customs. The officers, who are all currently Assistant Comptrollers-General, will serve in an acting capacity in their new position, a statement by Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeniyi, said.

The affected officers and their posts are:
Idris Suleiman (Finance Administration and Technical Service);
Iya Umar (Tariff and Trade);
Dan Ugo (Enforcement Investigation and Inspection);
Grace Adeyemo (Excise, FTZ & Industrial Incentive);
Austin Warikoru (Human Resource Development);
Paul Ukaigwe (Strategic Research and Policy).

Col. Ali also announced the appointment, also on an acting basis, of eight Comptrollers to occupy the new positions of Assistant Comptrollers-General:
I. Comptroller Umar Sanusi mni (ACG Headquarters)
II. Comptroller Funsho Adegoke (ACG ICT)
III.Comptroller Mohammed Abbas mni (ACG Board)
IV. Comptroller Olatunji Aremu mni (Command & Staff College)
V. Comptroller Charles Edike (Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘A’)
VI. Comptroller Abubakar Dangaladima (Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘B’)
VII. Comptroller Azarema Abdulkadir (Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘C’)
VIII. Comptroller Chidi Augustine (Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘D’)
Seven officers have also been redeployed in the reorganization exercise. They are:
I. ACG Adesina Odunmbaku (Finance and Technical Service)
II. ACG Robert Alu (Tariff and Trade)
III. ACG Ade Dosumu (Enforcement and Drugs)
IV. ACG Monday Abueh mni (Excise & Industrial Incentive)
V. ACG Ahmed Mohammed mni (Human Resource Management)
VI. ACG Patience Iferi (Strategic Research and Policy) and
VII. Comptroller Aminu Abba (Technical Services)

It would be recalled that four days ago, the five existing DCGs of the service issued a joint statement in which they quit en masse, but gave no reason.

Their resignation is however widely-believed to be in reaction to the leadership posture of Col. Ali, who is quoted as warning members of the service that he intends to sanitize the Customs, and to prosecute anyone found guilty of corruption. The Nigeria Customs Service is widely-reviled for its corrupt practices.
