Just days before leaving office, he has sacked the executive secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Saratu Umaru, and appointed Uju Hassan-Baba as acting executive secretary.
The beautiful Saratu had been under pressure in recent times, with allegations of abuse of office and some kind of high-handedness against her from directors and staff of the agency.
But in her defence, she told newsmen that
although staff of NIPC demanded for her removal in a protest a few weeks ago, some directors in the agency, indicted by the recent audit of the agency’s account books, were behind the protest at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Saratu, who addressed the media on the incident, said that audit findings showed that monies running into hundreds of millions of naira were misappropriated by the directors.
"I felt there were pressing issues that needed attention, so I did not spend any N35m furnishing my office. That you can confirm. Re-positioning the agency for optimal service delivery is my top priority but those who are used to the old ways of doing things are the ones misinforming the staff," she said.
