President Goodluck Jonathan and the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, have met for the first time after the keenly contested presidential election.
Jonathan lost the election to Buhari, and conceded defeat, the first time an incumbent Nigerian leader would do so. In a telephone call to Buhari ahead of his official declaration as winner, President Jonathan had urged him to make time for their teams to meet and commence transitional processes.
The meeting, described as “private”, held at the Banquet Hall inside the President’s office.
The two leaders met behind closed-doors at the Aso Rock presidential villa Friday. Both sides are expected to commence transitional processes ahead of the May 29 date for the transfer of power.
Sources say the meeting is most likely related to a soft landing for the incumbent but OluFamous.Com was yet to confirm the full details as at the time of posting.
Presidency sources however confirmed that both leaders held a meeting.
